Mission on the Map at CRE SW 2022

Both William and Louisa from Christian TEFL had a fantastic time at the Christian Resources Exhibition South West. The exhibition took place at Westpoint, Exeter, 23- 24 February and Christian TEFL was part of the first-ever Mission on the Map zone within the main resources exhibition.

Fifteen SWAN-affiliated organisations were present to chat with guests and visitors. We were thrilled to also catch up in person with a couple of Christian TEFL partner organisations, Interserve and WEC International. It was particularly interesting to discover how some of the other agencies have adapted to the pandemic. There was a real sense of community and togetherness among the mission agencies at this event and we met to pray together alongside the MAF aeroplane before each day commenced. The MAF exhibition provided a real focal point for anyone thinking about serving overseas.

Global to Local

However, William also notes:

“There is something quite engaging listening to a full-blown church organ pipe up when you are chatting about TEFL and mission. With TEFL and travel, you think sometimes of exotic locations, far off sun-filled places. Or at least that’s what I remember of time in Mexico and Portugal. Having background organ music with all the stops pulled out while chatting about TEFL is something quite different!”

That perhaps seems appropriate though. William also had the opportunity to speak at a seminar organised by OSCAR entitled What’s Happening with Mission Post-pandemic. He outlined how churches were stepping out in faith to support local communities, offering welcome through international cafes and ESOL classes across the country. The panel, including representatives from CMS and SAT-7, also addressed significant trend changes in our ministries. We explored how we as Christians might need to give a different response in 2022 and beyond.

William and Louisa also welcomed a number of visitors to the stand. If that was you, thank you! Some of you are considering English language teaching for outreach locally. Others are thinking about serving overseas. We will pray that the Lord lead you towards your calling.

There was something for everyone at CRE SW. Even budding organists!
