New Teaching English in Church Guide now available….

Intended as a ‘how to get started’ guide to teaching English in church, we’ve pulled together the various resources available about this great ministry into one, simple, easy-to-read document.

The idea for the guide was born out of the great conversations we have had with Christians keen to get started and use their English skills to serve the people in their locality. The conversations have always been encouraging but we have had nothing to offer them in terms of a practical handout to direct, steer and encourage.

Until now that is…

About the guide

We’ve scoured the internet for resources, interviewed Christians involved at the chalk face, attended a great Christian English teaching forum and drawn on our own knowledge of teaching English in order to bring you a picture of  the challenges, best practice, top tips and links to useful resources.

You don’t need to be an existing teacher or have any TEFL qualifications to benefit from the contents.
The guide is for you if you are:

  • thinking of setting up an English teaching programme Ð wanting a steer on organising/publicising and running
  • a prospective volunteer who is thinking about joining an existing programme but wants a flavour of what is involved

At 80 plus pages and clearly organised, you can dip in to useful sections or read it as whole. While it doesn’t claim to be an in-depth resource that will cover every eventuality, it is certainly designed to be a practical ‘how to’ overview.

Additionally, anyone already involved in teaching English in church can benefit from tips, resource links and the experience of others.  At the end of the guide we invite you to contribute your ideas and links to resources so we can keep the guide useful and relevant for the next generation of English teaching Christians.
Praise for the guide:

‘….heartily recommend this guide as being a practical, helpful and inspiring tool for any people contemplating starting up English language classes in their church’
Mrs Betty Holt (review published on the Oscar website.)

‘Wow!…I found it cheerful, colourful and easy to read. The layout was good with large speech quotations and questions to the reader…Very practical and inspiring. It’s great to learn from those who have already been doing this. It gave me groundwork from which I can develop my dream and what I feel God is calling me to: sharing the gospel and teaching English’
Pam Norman

‘…there is just of lots of good and very helpful stuff throughout this guide – thank you for taking the time to produce it.’
Ken Snider, Kings church, Darlington
