New Teaching English in Church Guide for Kindle, tablet or smartphone now available.

Updated for 2018 and put into an easy reader format for Kindle, our acclaimed ‘How to get started’ guide to teaching English in church is now in electronic format for easy access across a range of devices.

We’ve pulled together various resources available online and written about how you can get involved in this great ministry one simple eBook.

About the guide

With input from those already running ESL/EFL programmes, this guide is designed to be both relevant and practical. It contains plenty of lesson ideas for teaching English, useful tips for getting started and is a useful source for further EFL materials and resources. Based on existing programmes running in the UK, this is a great tool if you or your church are thinking of setting up an English teaching programme in your church or local community. It’s also helpful if you are already involved and want more input on structure, content & resources, or if you are a prospective volunteer who want a taste of what is involved in teaching English as a foreign or second language.

There are useful sections on how to get started, plan lessons and the role of the teacher, with additional guidance on teaching English to beginners. The guide contains helpful ideas on overcoming initial challenges, along with suggestions for how and when to introduce the gospel. This combines to add a practical sense of what is involved, with a comprehensive set of online resources for further research.

Written by TEFL professionals with a heart for sharing the gospel.

You don’t need to be an existing teacher or have any TEFL qualifications to benefit from the contents. The guide is for you if you are:

  • thinking of setting up an English teaching programme Ð wanting a steer on organising/publicising and running
  • a prospective volunteer thinking about joining an existing programme but wants a flavour of what is involved
  • just interested in seeing what teaching English in an outreach environment might involve

Praise for the 2016 version of the guide:

‘….heartily recommend this guide as being a practical, helpful and inspiring tool for any people contemplating starting up English language classes in their church’
Mrs Betty Holt (review published on the Oscar website.)

‘It’s great to learn from those who have already been doing this. It gave me groundwork from which I can develop my dream and what I feel God is calling me to: sharing the gospel and teaching English’.
Pam Norman (Christian TEFL graduate)

‘…there is just lots of good and very helpful stuff throughout this guide – thank you for taking the time to produce it.’
Ken Snider, Kings church, Darlington
