TEFL for tentmaking

TEFL for tentmaking

How one Christian TEFL graduate is planning on using their Christian TEFL qualification.

We met JB at Big Church Day Out in 2019. He decided to sign up for a course with us and here he shares some of his thoughts on how he is going to use it in the future, along with what he is doing currently in Belgium.  Over to you JB…

I recently completed my TEFL 120 hour online course. I am currently working with a church plant in a town of 12,000 people in Belgium. We have recently seen 2 young men start following Jesus and get baptised! It’s been exciting seeing many ways in which God is moving!

I took the course as I heard from a few different people how they were able to live abroad from England and make a living by teaching English.

My main focus is to follow Jesus and be part of the work of His Kingdom. So far I have been financially supported but it’s good to know now that the TEFL qualification brings another option, useful in many countries around the world.

The course that I completed was very helpful in many ways. One of the ways that I was not expecting that it helped me, was in general teaching. I learnt good teaching skills that have been useful in teaching the Bible to people.

So far I have not directly used the TEFL qualification, although there may be opportunity to get further involved in the local community by offering English lessons in the local library.

In the future I would love to visit other countries to see how God is moving there and how church looks like for them. I can see the TEFL qualification being a tool to be able to do that, as well as helping the people of those countries who want to learn English.

Thanks JB, and every blessing wherever your path leads in the future.
